CAIRO: The Egyptian armed forces have destroyed arms and explosives store Friday in a recent military operation against militants in Sinai; Youm7 quoted a statement by the military spokesperson Mohamed Samir.

The targeted store was in Sheikh Zuwayed city, which has witnessed several attacks by militants on army posts and vehicles.

In his statement, Samir added that “Special Forces managed to target a vehicle carrying weapons and ammunition, resulting in the destruction of the vehicle and the killing of two terrorists on board of it.”

Some 18 police personnel were injured after a roadside bomb went off Thursday near their bus in North Sinai’s town of Arish.

In July 1, simultaneous attacks targeted army checkpoints in North Sinai leaving 17 soldiers killed, according to the army. The Sinai Province militant group, previously known as Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, claimed responsibility of the attacks.

The army announced it killed 205 militants during the three days that followed the attacks.

A magnified security campaign is taking place in the northern tip of the peninsula to combat a rising militancy.
