CAIRO:  Syrian opposition fractions have met in Cairo Monday in a bid to reach a unified formula for the four-year-old crisis amid Egyptian and Arab support to a “political solution.”

Since Geneva 1 conference in 2012, Syrian opposition parties have held several meetings in countries including Qatar, Russia, and Turkey to put an end to the Syrian turmoil and find a way out for President Bashar al-Assad.

The opposition would discuss a five-point proposal aims to create an executive authority with legislative powers and without any officials from the governing Syrian regime, Sihnok Dipo, a member of Syrian Democratic Union Party (PYD) told Youm7 Sunday evening.

The proposal includes writing a “democratic constitution”, pushing foreign fighters – pro and anti Assad – to get out of Syrian territories, recognizing the Kurdish peoples and their legislative rights and adhering by the proposal conditions, Dipo added.

Around 150 members from all opposition parties attend the meetings, organized by the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affair., he added.

“The only solution is the political one,” said the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in his speech during the opening session of the meetings Monday.

Shoukry highlighted that the solution of the crisis boils down to applying Geneva 1 Conference in 2012, which includes forming a transitional unity government, calling for the unification of all Syrian parts.

President of Arab inter-parliamentary union Ahmed al-Garwan announced the organization‘s support to find a solution to the Syrian crisis politically and diplomatically.

On January 24, Egypt hosted a meeting of 75 members from Syrian opposition powers, who announced their support to the Geneva 1 conference outcomes.

Since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, 210,060 were killed according to figures from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in February, Reuters reported.
