CAIRO:Activist Alaa Abdel Fattah’s sentence of one month in prisonand a fine of 200 EGP over charges of insulting Ministry of Interior has been overruled,Maadi Misdemeanor Court of Appeals stated Sunday.
The case was filed asAbdel Fattahis serving five years in prisonover charges of violating the 2013 protest law.
According to investigations, Abdel Fatah said “Dirty Ministry (of Interior) may all of you die or be bombed, you with your children.”
On Oct. 2, 2014, MaadiMisdemeanor Court sentenced Abdel Fatah to one month in jail for; however, he submitted a petitionto the court against the sentence, which was upheld on May 28.
During Sunday trial, Abdel Fatah denied the insult; his lawyer Taher Abu el-Nassrsaid his client was acquitted due to the illegality of filing the case.
The case file claims that Alaa insulted a particular employee at the ministry. However, investigationssay that the employee was absent when Abdel Fattah articulated the insult.
The political activist’s suspended sentence of one year in prison over charges of torching former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq’s presidential campaign headquarters in May 2012 was upheld May 11.
