CAIRO: A Cairo court sentenced two defendants in the retrial of the controversial Shura Council case to three years in prison and a 100,000 fine ($13,100,) Youm7 reported Monday.
Abdel Rahman sayed and Abdel Rahman Tarek are charged with assaulting officer Emad Tahoun, stealing his wireless police apparatus, organizing an illegal protest outside the headquarters of the Shura Council, damaging public properties, and stirring chaos.
In February, they were sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison.
In the same case, the court sentenced the renowned activist Alaa Abd el-Fattah in February to five years in prison and fine him 100,000 EGP ($13,100) over charges of organizing the same protest outside the headquarters of the Shura Council in November 2013.
Abd el-Fattah and the other defendants were accused of violating the 2013 protest law and attacking a police officer, among other charges.
In June 2014, they were sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison; however, it was reported then that Abdel Fatah along other defendants were present outside the court but were denied entry.
