CAIRO: The success rate among Thanawya Amma (high school diploma) students rose by 2.8 percent during 2014-2015 academic year registering 79.4 percent compared to 76.6 percent last year, Education Minister Moheb el-Rafie said in a press conference Tuesday.
“Six students received a full score of 100 percent this year,” Rafie said, adding that success rate among boys was 77.2 percent while it reached 80.9 percent among girls.
The Thanawya Amma represents the bottleneck for joining a university as its result determines the career of every student; thus parents often hire private tutors to prepare for the exams.
During the conference, Rafie congratulated this year’s top ten students through the phone.
This year, over half a million high school students took the exams which kicked off June 6 for over a month amid extreme measures to curb cheating using elaborate high-tech methods; cheating during exams has been on the rise during the past few years.
