CAIRO: Delta Aquarids Meteor shower is expected to be seen in Egypt’s sky during the end of this month, the head of Astronomy Department at the Astronomical Research Center Ashraf Tadros told Youm7 Thursday.

Tadros said that the meteors might be witnessed June 27-30; the phenomenon might extend to the beginning of August.

Egyptians will be able to see the falling meteors by naked eyes before dawn, said Tadros, adding that the expected meteors rate will vary between 15 to 20 meteors per hour.

According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA,) Delta Aquarids will peak this year in July 28-29, during a new moon, “which means dark skies for optimal viewing.”

The Delta Aquarids are active in mid-July and are visible until late August, but one will not be able to view them if there is a moon. They originate from leftover comet particles and bits from broken asteroids, said NASA.
