CAIRO: A day after a militant attack targeted an Egyptian navy ship off Rafah in North Sinai Thursday, the U.K. Foreign Officer warned British citizens against travelling to North Sinai and parts of South Sinai.
The travel ban does not include tourist areas in South Sinai’s Sharm el-Sheikh. British tourists were also warned against traveling “within 50km of the border with Libya and the area west of the Nile Valley and Delta Regions, excluding Siwa, Fayoum and the coastal areas.”
A navy vessel off the Mediterranean coast of Egypt’s Rafah caught on fire Thursday after an exchange of fire with militants on the coast, military spokesperson Mohamed Samir said in a statement.
According to the Foreign Office statement, Over 900,000 British nationals visit Egypt every year.
