CAIRO: Egypt’s security officials at Cairo airport have prevented German activist Silke Kumpf Sunday from entering Egypt, after her name was put on the airport’s blacklist, Youm7 reported Monday.

A security source told Youm7 the activist was coming from Frankfurt, Germany, and by reviewing her data, her name was found on the banned-from-entry list. Security bodies were notified and decided to deport her.

In June, Egyptianactivist Mohamed Lotfy was prevented from traveling to Germany where he was to speak before the Bundestag about human rights violations in Egypt.

Lotfy, a former Amnesty International researcher who co-founded the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms, was banned from traveling on the same day President Abdel Fatah al-Sisimade his first official visit to Germany.

The German Bundestag’s speaker cancelled a meeting with Sisi over what he called “pervasive human rights abuses in Egypt.”

Lotfy said no official reason was given for barring him, but his passport was confiscated. He said it was “concerning” that the Egyptian state was worried about one person’s critical voice while hundreds of Sisi supporters had already traveled to Berlin.
