CAIRO: The attempt of 181 people to illegally travel to Libya through desert routers in Sallum was foiled Monday, according to a statement by Matrouh security directorate.

The group includes 79 from five Upper Egyptian governorates, 63 from Fayoum, southwest of Cairo, 35 from Delta governorates, two from Giza and two from Sudan.

Despite security turmoil in Libya, dozens of Egyptians are arrested almost on weekly basis attempting to travel to Libya illegally. It is uncertain how many manage to travel to find work. Before Tripoli descended into a dangerous security vacuum, the oil-rich country used to host a large number of Egyptian laborers.

Three Christian Africans, including an Egyptian, have been abducted in Libya by the Islamic State (IS,) according to a statement by the group that surfaced on social media Sund.
