CAIRO: The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) embarked on a random photo collection of Egyptians to place them in a large banner behind President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi while addressing the nation during the new Suez Canal project inauguration ceremony.
“The notion meant to show gratitude for the popular support to the project,” the SCA said in a statement Monday.
On Tuesday, the SCA asked the Egyptians, who wish to attend the inauguration ceremony, to send ceremony attendance requests. The authority has created an e-mail for that purpose.
An applicant should submit a request with his full name and mobile phone number, according to the invitation request published on the official Facebook page of the New Suez Canal. Those selected will be notified on their phones, the authority noted.
“Applicants who were not selected will be contacted later to take free sightseeing and marine tours after the inauguration ceremony,” the statement said.
Tareq Lashin, Chairman of the Public Relation in Memac Ogilvy, one of marketing and advertising companies tasked for promoting the new Suez Canal, told Aswat Masryia that the attendees will be determined through a lottery.
