CAIRO: Egypt will host a meeting of Arab League foreign ministers on August 5 to discuss the “latest Israeli aggression in Jerusalem,” chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat said in a press conference Monday.

The meeting will be held in the Cairo-based Arab League (AL) headquarters upon a call from the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Erekat said, following a meeting with AL Secretary-General Nabil al-Araby.

The meeting will tackle “recent Israeli escalation in Jerusalem -particularly in Al-Aqsa mosque, Israel’s continuous settlement policies, arrests, assassinations, siege, displacement, and ethnic cleansing,” Erekat said.

On Monday morning, a group of Israel settlers have prevented Palestinians from performing prayer in the Dome of the Rock Mosque, MENA reported Monday. Meanwhile, Israeli government on July 22 has approved the construction of 906 units for the settlers.

Cairo meeting will discuss France’s two-state solution, hereby the talks on peace agreement should complete in time limit of 18 to 24 months, Erekat said, noting that the Palestinian Authority is in contact with France to submit the proposal to the United Nation Security Council (UNCS.)

Erekat added that the talks will focus on the inter-Palestinian reconciliation issue. Egypt-brokered reconciliation talks were suspended following Oct. 27 attacks on military personnel in North Sinai’s Arish.

Hamas and Fatah reached a reconciliation agreement on a unity government in April, but differences reemerged between the two groups after the announcement of a cease-fire agreement with Israel following the latest Israel-Gaza war in 2014.
