CAIRO: A police conscript was killed and three others injured Wednesday morning in an armed attack on the Niger embassy in Cairo, Interior Ministry said in a statement.
Three armed men in a private car opened fire randomly on the security guards outside Niger’s embassy in al-Haram district before they fled the scene, according to the statement.
The conscript received seven bullets that caused his immediate death, Youm7 reported.
The incident reportedly took no more than three minutes; it left two other policemen and an embassy employee injured. The injuries were transferred to Haram Hospital.
Security agencies will use surveillance cameras of a bank near the embassy to identify the perpetrators, Youm7 reported.
In July 11, a policeman was killed and nine civilians were injured after a car bomb blast targeted the Italian consulate in Cairo, causing severe damages to the consulate’s building and nearby buildings.
