Opera Aida, Omar Khairat perform in new Suez Canal opening

CAIRO: Cairo Opera House will participate in the inauguration ceremony of the new Suez Canal project with an Opera Aida performance and a concert by renowned musician Omar Khairat, news websites quoted chief of Opera House Enas Abdel Dayem.

About 1,000 artists and musicians will participate in the show, Abdel Dayem said, adding that assigning the Opera House to participate in the historical event is a “big honor” to all artists.

The program will start with a concert by Khairat who he will play four of his famous musical pieces for 45 minutes. After that, artists will perform the 30-minute scene featuring public celebration of Radamès’ victory in the battle field.

The two opera shows might be aired live by the state TV and private channels.

Aida was first performed in Cairo in 1871; two years after the inauguration ceremony of the Suez Canal.

Suez Canal Authority has officially announced the dredging works in the new Suez Canal branch was finalized.

All world leaders have been invited to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new 72-kilometer long canal, which aims to speed up transit time and allow ships to sail into both directions at the same time.

In an unprecedented tradition, ships at ports across the world will blow their horns at the same time on August 6 greeting the new Suez Canal achievement, Suez Canal Authority announced.
