CAIRO: Cairo University has officially sacked Mubarak-era Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif from his post after he was sentenced to five years in jail last week over charges of embezzling public money and profiteering, Youm7 reported Wednesday.

Per article 66 of the Civil Service Law, any public service employee convicted of committing crime or misdemeanor, shall be sacked from his job.

Nazif , 63, was an Electrical Engineering professor at the Faculty of Engineering’s Electronic Communication Department.

In September 2012, Nazif was sentenced to three years in prison and fined nine million EGP ($1.2m) over corruption charges during his tenure as Egypt’s Prime Minister.

However, he and former Minister of Interior Habib al-Adly were acquitted of changes of profiteering in case known in media as “license plates.”
