CAIRO: A total of 134 boats have been seized during the past 24 hours for violating river traffic rules in a crackdown following a cargo ship-boat collision that killed at least 40 people last week, Youm7 reported Friday.
Violations upon which the boats were seized include lack of licenses and lighting, absence of survival tools and incomplete navigational crew.
A boat, with over 60 people on board, collided with a cargo ship causing the former to sink; the cargo ship captain and his assistant have been arrested over manslaughter accusations.
A boat ride on the Nile River is among Egyptians’ most favorite entertainment activities, especially during public holidays.
