CAIRO: Eight truck drivers called on Egypt to help them out of a border area between Iraq and Jordan, where they have been stranded for 18 days, Youm7 reported Friday.

The drivers, five Egyptian and three Syrian, were heading to Karama crossing when the Iraqi army stopped them and allegedly seized the money they had in their possession, and informed them the borders with Jordan have been closed. They were demanded to head to Saudi-Iraqi Arar border crossing, according to a phone call between Youm7 and Gamal Aboul-Enain, one of the Egyptian drivers.

They contacted the Egyptian embassy in Baghdad, but it only documented their information and did not provide further assistance, Aboul-Enain told Youm7.

Aboul-Enain expressed the group’s concern of starvation or getting killed by the Iraqi military’s shells amid fighting with IS.
