CAIRO: The “largest fish farm” project in the world is underway in Suez Canal with 3,828 fish basins at an infrastructure cost of 650 million EGP ($83 million,) Minister of Environment Khaled Fahmy told MENA Friday.
A total of 1,380 basins will operate on the inauguration of the New Suez Canal this week, Fahmy said, adding that experts from the ministry are assessing any possible ecological effects of the project.
The fish farm, expected to provide job opportunities and food security at a suitable price, is one of the Suez Canal axis projects that Egypt is aspiring to accomplish in the next years.
