CAIRO: A Special Operations soldier, Amr Abdel Raouf, arrived in Egypt Saturday after a six-month treatment period in London, after he lost his right eye in a January attack against military in the Sinai, Youm7 reported.
A number of leaders from Special Operations and the Ministry of Interior received him at the Cairo International Airport early Saturday; Raouf left Egypt in February after his injury for treatment at the Saint Mary hospital.
On Jan. 29, at least 20 soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire in Arish, North Sinai, between security forces and militants who used mortar shells and car bombs in their attacks, military spokesperson Mohamed Samir said in a brief statement.
Including civilians, at least 29 people were killed and 36 were injured in a series of attacks took place Jan. 29 evening, official sources told Youm7.
The source added that a series of attacks hit the area after rocket-propelled grenades struck several stations.
The attack targeted Battalion 101 in Arish, military lounges around the Arish police station, a hotel used by the military and other security stations in the area
The most recent wide-scale operation by the Islamic State group-affiliated “Sinai Province” group, formerly known as Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (ABM) was in October, where over 30 soldiers were killed in a car bomb attack followed heavy fire.
