CAIRO: Egypt is scheduled to host the first Arab Ministerial Forum for Housing and Urban Development (AMFHUD) from Dec. 20-22, to discuss housing and urban development issues in Egypt and Arab states, Youm7 reported Saturday.

“The forum is to be attended by the Arab ministers of housing, the heads of cities and municipalities and the governmental decision makers concerned with housing and urban development,” head of AMFHUD’s organizing board Nafisa Hashim told Youm7.

She added that the forum will raise consciousness towards sustainable urban development, as well as present the leading Arab experiences in the field to implement the best plans and programs of housing and urban development.

The forum will also discuss the best methods to develop slums, infrastructure, water supply and sewer services, Hashim said, adding that issues of quality of life, including affordable housing were also on the agenda.

AMFHUD was approved to be established in 2012 in the 29th council of Arab ministers for Housing and Construction, targeting the sustainable urbanization of the Arab states, according to UN-Habitat website, and is responsible for providing a technical platform for reporting on goals related to development.
