CAIRO: One person was killed and 20 others were injured after two microbuses crashed Saturday morning in Ain Sokhna; a town in Suez Governorate, Youm7 quoted Suez Health Directorate.

Ten of the injured left the hospital after receiving treatment; the other 10 are still hospitalized but in stable condition, according to a security source at the directorate.

The accident, which took place on Suez-Sokhna Road, caused the traffic to halt for 20 minutes.

Suez Security Director Gamal Abdel Bary said that the reason for the accident could be due to the high speed of the cars.

The Ministry of Health has previously reported that about 21,000 are killed and 150,000 injured annually on Egypt’s roads in accidents.

According to a report issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) in April 2015, an average of 17 people died per day in road accidents in Egypt in 2014.

The report said that human error caused 59.2 percent of all 2014 road accidents, while 19.3 percent were caused by technical failure.

Official figures spotted a 7.5 percent decline in accidents rate in 2014 with a total of 14,403 road in comparison to 2013 (15,578 accidents,) according to a 2014 CAPMAS report.
