EGX slumps for 2nd day, benchmark down 0.9%

CAIRO: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) extended its bearish performance for a second straight day at the close of Monday’s’s session, hurt by local and Arab retailers’ sell-off.

The benchmark index EGX30 fell 0.87 percent to end at 8,087 points, compared to 8,158 points on Sunday.

Market capitalization shed around 2.9 billion EGP ($370.4 million,) totaling 493.6 billion EGP, down from 496.5 billion EGP on Sunday.

The market bellwether, CIB, dropped 0.97 percent to close at 55.27 EGP per share, compared to 55.81 EGP per share on Sunday.

Further, the small and mid-cap index EGX70 declined 0.97 percent to end at 453.5 points, down from 458 points in its last session.

The broader index EGX100 also went down 0.2 percent, to close at 937 points.
