Egypt receives last batch of UAE-funded public buses

CAIRO: Egypt received 174 public buses; the last batch of 600 provided by the UAE to develop the country’s public transport sector, Youm7 reported Wednesday.

The new buses will operate Thursday for free in celebration of the New Suez Canal inauguration, chairman of the Cairo Transport Authority (CTA) Rezq Abu Ali said.

The authority held a special ceremony at the Citadel of Saladin to mark the delivery of the new busses attended by the UAE Minister of State Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber and Cairo governor Galal el-Saeed.

In March, Egypt received 200 new buses worth 180 million EGP ($23.59 million,) as a first batch of 600 buses UAE has granted to Egypt at a total cost of 550 million EGP ($72.08 million,) to improve Cairo public transportation fleet.
