CAIRO: Security forces arrested Thursday a Muslim Brotherhood (MB) leading figure who escaped from Wadi al-Natroun prison in the wake of Egypt’s 2011 uprising, Al-Ahram reported.

Abdel Nasser Abo al-Fottoh was arrested in a security check point in Cairo’s northern district of Helmeyet el-Zaitoun.

On Jan. 29, 2011, unidentified assailants have raided the Wadi al-Natroun prison, freeing a large number of prisoners, including members of Egyptian, Palestinian and Lebanese groups. Former president Mohamed Morsi, who was jailed on remand, was among those who fled the prison.

Investigations revealed that Abo al- Fottoh was sentenced to life in absentia in a case known in the media as “reviving the terrorist organization.”

On May 16, Former President Mohamed Morsi and 105 Muslim Brotherhood defendants were sentenced to death by North Cairo Criminal Court over escaping from Wadi al-Natroun jail in 2011.
