CAIRO: Five workers were killed and four others injured in a fire that broke out Saturday morning at a starch and glucose factory in Egypt’s Delta governorate of Qalyubia, Youm7 reported.

Preliminary investigations indicated that an explosion took place in a boiler at one of the silos inside the factory due to a surge in temperature, causing fire. Civil Protection Forces managed to put out the fire.

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has announced a scorching heat wave, currently hitting the country, is expected to continue until mid-August.

During the past days, average temperature across Egypt reached 47 ᵒC -48 ᵒC (110 F), with high humidity rate.

According to EMA, the wave will relent starting from Sunday, where temperature degrees will vary between 36 ᵒC -37 ᵒC until the middle of this month. The authority also warned against direct exposure to the sun rays for long time, and advised the people to drink water and juices as much as possible.
