CAIRO: Egyptian swimmer Ahmed Akram has qualified for men’s 1,500 m Freestyle final at the World Championship in Kazan, Russia.
Akram ended Saturday preliminary round at fifth place with a time of 14 minutes and 55.42 seconds.
“Egyptians should be proud of what Akram achieved as he reached what many former Egyptian swimmers dreamt of,” Ahmed Saeed, Deputy President of Ahly Sports Club, told Youm7 Saturday.
Akram is part of the swimming team at Ahly club. Saeed said that he hopes Akram wins at the Olympics, which will be held in Ro de Janeiro in 2016.
Last week, Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman finished at the fifth place in Women’s 50m Butterfly final in the same championship.
The 2015 World Aquatics Championships are currently held in Kazan during August 2 – 9; 42 events are scheduled to be held during this period. The 1500m final for men is scheduled on Sunday (today.)
