CAIRO: A senior police officer was killed and a soldier injured Sunday after two assailants fired on a military unit in Suez governorate, military spokesperson Mohamed Samir said in a statement.
Lieutenant Colonel Walid al-Sadiq was shot dead while Mohamed Hassan; a soldier was injured in fire exchange between elements from the Third Field Army and two assailants on a motorbike that attacked a checkpoint near Badr Market in Suez, according to the statement.
An assailant was killed while the whereabouts of the others is still unknown, Samir said, adding that weapons, field glasses, and an engineering drawing of an important site were seized.
Earlier on Sunday, an officer and a conscript were killed in a bomb attack in Arish, North Sinai.
