CAIRO: The Iraqi authorities opened borders with Jordan to let five Egyptian drivers cross into Jordan after being stranded for over 27 days, The Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zeid said in a statement Saturday.
The ministry had coordinated with Iraq to temporarily open the borders, as the drivers were requested to head to Saudi-Iraqi Arar border crossing rather than Karama crossing leading into Jordan, according to a phone call between Youm7 and Gamal Aboul-Enain, one of the drivers.
The Iraqi-Jordanian border was opened Saturday night for the Egyptian drivers and their trucks to cross on Sunday, Abou Zeid said, thanking the Iraqi government.
