CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met in Budapest Friday and exchanged views on the perspectives of Hungarian-Egyptian relations as well as international affairs of mutual interest, according to a presidential statement.

“They agreed that it is the mutual desire of both nations to maintain and to deepen their mutually advantageous cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and scientific fields as well as in people-to-people contacts,” said the statement.

Sisi has arrived in the Hungarian Capital Budapest Thursday evening at an invitation from Orbán. His trip to Hungary followed his 2-day visit to Germany, where he met with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and discussed bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Orbán praised the successful consolidation of the political, economic and security situation in Egypt as well as the progress made in the field of the political transition process, said the statement.

“The Hungarian side expressed its full political support to the Egyptian authorities in their fight against terrorism and extremism. Both sides declared solemnly that terrorism has no faith, no religion and that it is a common enemy of all peace-loving nations.”

During his visit, Sisi is due to meet Hungarian Parliament Speaker Laszlo Kover.

The two sides are gravely concerned about the deterioration of the security situation in Libya and the growing terrorist threat therein also affecting security and stability in neighboring countries, said the statement.
