CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi called on Egyptian voters to choose their candidates well in the parliament elections, as “the parliament is the trigger for a better future,” Youm7 reported Sunday.

In a speech addressing army forced and public figures at al-Galaa Theatre in Cairo Sunday, Sisi assured that by the end of the current year, a parliament will be formed.

He urged the security forces to secure the upcoming elections and voters and to encourage them to participate.

Egypt’s parliamentary elections; the third step in 2013 roadmap, had been scheduled to kick off last March 22, and then were indefinitely postponed after the Supreme Constitutional Court (HCC) ruled in March the unconstitutionality of articles concerning electoral districts and political participation laws.

Two electoral laws regulating the country’s long-awaited parliament elections were amended and recently approved by Sisi Aug. 1.

According to the new amendments, the maximum campaign spending allowed for a 10-member party list will be 2.5 million EGP ($319,293) in the first round and 1 million EGP in the runoff.

Egypt will be divided into 205 electoral constituencies for individual candidates and four for the party lists.
