CAIRO: A police officer was sentenced Wednesday to one year in jail for killing two brothers in Suez governorate, Youm7 reported.
According to investigations, the two brothers were fatally shot in January by two police officers who were chasing them in Arab al-Maamal district in Suez. One of the two officers was released. The name of the arrested officer has not been released.
The brothers’ mother ceded her complaint against the police officer after mediation by clergymen and politicians in the governorate.
On Aug. 13, a police officer was sentenced to five years hard labor over killing 37 prisoners allegedly belonging to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, while they were inside a prisoner transport vehicle. Three other officers involved in the same case, received a one-year suspended sentence.
In June, a lieutenant was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Cairo Criminal Court for killing activist Shaimaa al-Sabbagh during the commemoration of the fourth anniversary if the January 25 Revolution earlier this year.
