CAIRO: The Cairo Airport received 34 Egyptians deported from Italy for violating the residency law, and 30 others from different nationalities were arrested in Kafr el-Sehikh suspected of planning to travel illegally through the Mediterranean Saturday.

Over 30 migrants from African and Arab countries were planning to take a boat to Europe Youm7 reported. They were supposed to board a rubber raft which would transport them to another waiting off shore.

Egypt has received waves of deported Egyptians from Italy a few times this year, and has foiled dozens of attempts to illegally travel to Europe and Libya.

The Egyptian and Italian authorities cooperate to clamp down on illegal emigration. However, due to the security vacuum in Egypt’s western neighbor Libya, 85 percent of the 167,184 migrants who reached Europe in 2014 had traveled from the Libyan coast, according to the U.N.
