CAIRO: Hundreds of striking policemen stormed Sunday the Delta city of Sharqia’s police station a few hours after the Ministry of Interior summoned central security forces to disperse their sit-in.

Hundreds of policemen went on strike for a week, protesting low wages and poor working conditions. Their demands include better pay, enforcing the promotion system and other financial rights including payment of incentives due for June and July and an increase in their end-of-service incentive payment.

They called for the ouster of Minister of Interior Magdy Abdel Ghaffar after using the force against them, adding that total of 16 policemen have been killed over one year “due to flagrant terrorism.”

Egypt’s Ministry of interior announced Sunday that all “legal measures against striking policemen” would be taken.

“What the policemen are doing contradicts with the nature of their jobs and disrupts the civilians’ interests,” an official from the Ministry of Interior told Youm7.

However, a military advisor arrived in the police station to negotiate with the striking policemen.
