CAIRO: Egyptian Athlete Mostafa al-Gamal reached the finals of the hammer throw at the Beijing World Championship after taking fourth place with a 75.48-meter throw, Youm7 reported Saturday.

Poland’s Pawel Fajdek and Britain’s Nick Miller came on the top for surpassing the 77.0 meters by recording 78.38 meters and 77.42 meters, respectively, Al-Ahram reported Saturday.

Egypt is putting hopes on al-Gamal for getting Egypt’s its first world medal.

The championship is being held from Aug. 22-30; the finals are to take place on Sunday.

In July, Al-Gamal recorded a hammer throw of 79.90 meters at the Cairo International Stadium, ranking him second globally and qualifying him to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, King Fut reported.

The website added that he broke the African and Egyptian record in 2014 after recording a 81.28-meter throw which is 66 cm more than his last record in 2005, which was 80.63 meters.
