CAIRO: Egyptian javelin thrower Ihab Abdel Rahman won Wednesday the silver medal at the 2015 International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championships in Beijing.
Abdel Rahman, 26, made a throw of 88.99 meters and came second after Kenya’s gold medalist Julius Yego of Kenya, who made a new African record throw of 92.72 meters. Finland’s Tero Pitkamaki won the bronze medal with an 87.64-meter throw.

“I’m so excited, this was a very tough day,” Abdelrahman said in a televised interview with the Beijing World Championships, according to Kingfut.com.
Wednesday’s silver medal is the first Egypt earned in the championship that kicked off August 22.
Abdel Rahman’s very best record of an 89.21-meter throw was achieved in the IAAF Diamond League in Shanghai in May 2014.
