Russia to sell Egypt 12 Sukhoi Superjets: Putin

CAIRO: Russia seeks to sell Egypt 12 of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 in light of strengthening cooperation between both countries in the aviation field, said Russian President Vladimir Putin Wednesday.

Egypt received the first Sukhoi Supreject plane in 2011; since then its fleet reached 44 aircraft. The initial price of the 100-passenger plane is approximately $35 million.

Sukhoi Superjet 100 planes were exhibited at the international military exhibition MAKS-2015 held in the Russian city of Zhukovsky from Aug. 25 to 30.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi attended the exhibition Tuesday that was inaugurated by Putin in presence of Jordanian Monarch King Abdullah II, and Emeriti Defense Prince and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The exhibit will include historical aircrafts, such as the supersonic air jet Tu-144 and Tu-155 along with aircrafts from World War II, such as a MIG-3 fighter jet, Youm7 reported.

In May, Russian news agency Ria Novosti reported that Cairo had agreed to buy 46 MiG-35 jet fighters. In February, The CEO of Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG said the company is ready to provide Egypt with MiG-35 jet fighters upon request.

To participate in the inauguration of the New Suez Canal Aug. 6, Russian high-speed missile corvette (Molbyia P-32) was gifted by Moscow.
