CAIRO: Civil protection forces were contained a fire that erupted Saturday morning at a plastics warehouse at Cairo’s northern district of Shubra el-Khema, Youm7 reported.
Five fire trucks were dispatched to the site to extinguish the blaze which broke out in two adjoining ground floor apartments of a four-story residential building used for storing plastic products.
No casualties were reported. The cause of the fire remains unknown; meanwhile, Qalyubia governorate security chief Saeed Shalaby said a preliminary investigation indicates that a short circuit has caused the fire.
As a precaution, people living in the nearby residential buildings were evacuated before the civil protection forces restored the power supply in some areas surrounding the fire site, Shalaby told Youm7.
During the past few weeks, several fires have erupted across the country.
On Aug. 22, a fire broke out in the eight-story building of El-Ataba call center in downtown Cairo leaving no casualties among civilians while a police officer was injured due to suffocation.
On Aug. 9, a large fire erupted at a paint factory in the 6 October City south of Cairo, the cause of which is still unknown.
