CAIRO: The State Commissioners Authority recommended the rejection of a lawsuit demanding stripping activist Wael Ghoneim of his Egyptian nationality because the plaintiff failed to rest his case, Youm7 reported Sunday.

Controversial lawyer Samir Sabry filed the lawsuit, scheduled to be considered by the Administrative Court for Nov. 22, claiming that the former Google engineer “deceived the Egyptian people” and is “supported by the U.S.”

The Egyptian nationality may be stripped from a person convicted of treason, who joins a foreign military without permission from the Egyptian Ministry of Defense, or who acquires a another citizenship without a permit from the Egyptian Ministry of Interior.

The State Commissioners, which, like the Administrative Court, falls under the umbrella of the State Council, noted that Sabry failed to provide any documents proving that Ghoneim committed anything that leads to stripping him of his citizenship.

Ghoneim was one of the administrations of the “We are all Khaled Said” Facebook page, which was one of the main campaigners for protests in January 2011 that ultimately toppled President Hosni Mubarak.

The activist has gradually withdrawn from public life over the past three years, and the last post on the famous “We are all Khaled Said” on Facebook copied the military statement announcing President Mohamed Morsi’s ouster following wide-scale protests in 2013.
