CAIRO: Each ministry must have a strategy to counter illegal immigration and set its specific commitments, Minister of Manpower Nahed Ashry said in a Monday meeting with representatives from 18 ministries, Youm7 reported.

The Ministry of Technical Education and the Social Fund for Development should raise the awareness of young people over illegal immigration through means such as booklets and seminars at youth centers and universities in coordination with the ministries of manpower, culture, youth, education and the State Information Service, state TV and Radio, she said.

The minister added that Immigration Affairs sector needs to play a role to liaise between ministries to reduce this phenomenon.

She emphasized that a national development project is needed to employ youth, and called for attracting young people to work in the Suez Canal Axis project.

It was also agreed at the meeting that a protocol shall be signed by the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Youth and the Radio and Television Union in coordination with youth associations to implement projects employing young people, according to Youm7.

On Aug. 27, Cairo Airport received 23 Egyptians deported from Italy over attempted trespassing into its territories. A total of 34 Egyptians were deported from Italy for violating the residency law last week.

Egypt has received waves of deported Egyptians from Italy and Saudi Arabia a few times this year, and has foiled dozens of illegal attempts to travel to Europe and Libya.
