CAIRO: The police foiled a suicide car bomb operation in Arish, North Sinai Wednesday; a truck was heading at a great speed towards a checkpoint, prompting the police to shoot at the driver.
The driver did not respond to orders to stop and submit to inspection and began shooting, according to a police statement. The car then hit the side road, and after being searched, it was discovered that the vehicle had been loaded with explosives connected to a circuit, as well as an explosive belt worn by the driver.
A civilian passerby was injured by a bullet and was transferred to a hospital. The latest wide-scale attack was carried out July 1, killing 17 soldiers at 15 checkpoints simultaneously.
