CAIRO: The first batch of Palestinian Hajj pilgrims will arrive to the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing Monday on their way to Saudi Arabia to perform their pilgrimage, Youm7 reported.

“A total of 2,450 Palestinian pilgrims have obtained entry visas to Saudi Arabia through the Saudi embassy in Cairo. The batch is set be transferred from Rafah to Cairo airport in several buses over the coming three days to avoid overcrowding in the arrival hall,” official source at the crossing told Youm7 Sunday.

The Hajj, expected to fall this year on Sept. 23, is a series of rituals performed in the holy city of Mecca to re-enact the actions of the Prophet Muhammad. It coincides with the celebration of Eid-el-Adha (feast of the sacrifice.)

The first batch of Egyptian pilgrims who were chosen by lot arrived in Saudi Arabia earlier this month.
