Sisi seeks to sign friendship agreement with ASEAN

CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi talked Saturday Secretary-General of The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Le Luong Minh in Jakarta, discussing ways of strengthen bilateral economic relations.

Sisi offered signing a friendship agreement between Egypt and ASEAN, discussing ways of improving economic and social relations, Presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef said in a statement.

“ASEAN companies can start from Egypt to the Arab, African and European markets, via free trade agreements with Egypt,” Sisi said.

ASEAN was established in 1967 in Bangkok, and includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

Two protocols on cancelling visas for diplomats and government officials and on training diplomats were signed during President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s visit to Jakarta on Friday. Sisi is wrapping up a seven-day tour to Singapore, China, and Indonesia.
