CAIRO: An Egyptian ministerial delegation headed by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab arrived in Tunisia Tuesday in a two-day visit to partake in the 11th round of the Egyptian-Tunisian Higher Committee, which will see a host of cooperation agreements Youm7 reported.
Mahlab and his Tunisian counterpart Habib Essid will co-chair the joint meetings scheduled for Sept. 8 and 9. Aiming at boosting bilateral economic and investment ties between the two Arab countries, the meeting is the first since Egypt’s and Tunisia’s uprisings in 2011.
“A total of 16 agreements and memorandums of understanding in areas of energy, education, tourism, agriculture, investment, youth and sports and culture are expected to be signed during this year’s round,” Egypt’s Ambassador to Tunisia Ayman Mesharafa was quoted by Al-Ahram Monday.
Mahlab is accompanied by a ministerial delegation including ministers of trade, industry, health, international co-operation and investment.
Trade exchange between Egypt and Tunisia is estimated at $300 million, according to the Egyptian State Information Service (SIS). The most important Egyptian exports to Tunisia include oil, carbon, legumes and aluminum products while the most important items of Egyptian imports from Tunisia include various chemicals, iron and steel products, aluminum, paper and olive oil.
