CAIRO: Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi welcomed his Egyptian counterpart’s invitation and has promised to visit Egypt “soon,” Youm7 reported Wednesday.

Egypt’s Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab delivered President Sisi’s invitation to the Tunisian President to visit Egypt during his two-day visit to Tunisia.

Mahlab headed an Egyptian ministerial delegation, including ministers of trade, industry, health, international co-operation and investment, Tuesday to Tunisia to partake in the 15th round of the Egyptian-Tunisian Higher Committee, after five years of suspension.

Mahlab and his Tunisian counterpart Habib Essid co-chaired the joint meetings on Sept. 8 and 9, aiming at boosting bilateral economic and investment ties between the two Arab countries.

According to Youm7, a total of 16 agreements and memoranda of understanding in areas of energy, education, tourism, agriculture, investment, youth and sports and culture were signed during committee’s sessions this year.

Trade exchange between Egypt and Tunisia is estimated at $300 million, according to the Egyptian State Information Service (SIS). The most important Egyptian exports to Tunisia include oil, carbon, legumes and aluminum products while the most important items of Egyptian imports from Tunisia include various chemicals, iron and steel products, aluminum, paper and olive oil.
