CAIRO:  Security forces arrested 47 persons allegedly belonging to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, and who had been accused of attacking police officers in Fayoum governorate, the Ministry of Interior announced Wednesday.

According to the statement, a total of 116 others were arrested over protesting, blocking roads and inciting riots in Fayoum.

On Aug. 18, seven men who allegedly belong to two “terrorist cells” based in Sharqia, in Egypt’s Delta, were arrested and their explosives storehouses were seized, according to a statement by the police.

Three other alleged “terrorist cells” with a total 27 suspects were arrested in Delta’s Gharbia governorate over charges of committing sabotaging acts against vital utilities and properties in the state, and burning cars belonging to police officers and judges in the governorate.

The ministry occasionally announces arresting similar “terrorist cells” and dozens of “middle leaders” of the banned Muslim Brotherhood, who are allegedly responsible for coordinating attacks on public utilities.
