CAIRO: Steel Tycoon Ahmed Ezz has submitted nomination papers to run for parliamentary ballot days after his election ban was upheld by a court, Youm7 reported.

Ezz’s lawyer Ahmed Hamouda presented the papers Thursday morning to the Higher Election Committee (HEC) headquarter in Shibin Al Kawm Primary Court in Egypt’s Delta governorate of Menoufia, according to Youm7.

The Supreme Administrative Court on Tuesday upheld a February court decision that barred Ezz from running in the upcoming parliamentary elections for failing to present documents required to run the elections including a bank account that he is able to manage.

It is not clear why Ezz presented his nomination paper given that the Tuesday’s court ruling was final and he cannot appeal it.

In August, the North Cairo Criminal Court rejected Ezz’s complaint submitted to lift a freeze order on his and his family’s assets that was imposed per a ruling by the Illicit Gains Authority over suspicions of profiteering and exploitation of influence. The decision has prohibited him from creating a new account and rendered him unable to run in the elections.
