CAIRO: Twelve people were killed and four were injured at a Monday wedding in central Sinai after unknown gunmen attacked a gathering of locals celebrating a wedding, Youm7 reported.
The victims have been transferred to hospitals in central Sinai and Taba in South Sinai.
Security forces arrived at the scene, amid a maelstrom of anger among the locals.
Militants in Sinai mostly attack security personnel, but have also been known to target Bedouins of certain tribes accused of helping the Egyptian and Israeli armies.
The attacks are concentrated in the northeastern tip of the peninsula, but dozens of alleged militants have been killed or arrested in central Sinai; their attacks have also occasionally extended beyond that area.
In February 2014, a tourist bus in Taba was targeted, killing three South Koreans and an Egyptian. A number of fatal attacks have been attributed to the Islamic State group -affiliated Sinai Province, formerly Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, in the Western Desert and other cities.
