CAIRO: Building on a long standing co-operation with Egypt in the field of culture and cooperation, the European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt and EU Member States, have launched a Facebook page to showcase various European cultural activities and events they are partnering or launching in Egypt. A total of 34 European Embassies and cultural centers are participating under the EU umbrella in this platform with diverse activities, such as: movie screenings, art festivals, galleries, music, and heritage.
Culture is one of the key sectors in which the EU has built a successful rapport with Egypt over the years. Among others, the EU is funding a project called “Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt” with a contribution of 3 million Euros. This is the first- bilateral programme in the field of culture in the Mediterranean region. The project focusses on modern cultural expressions and builds on the direct cooperation with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, as well as through grants to cultural operators.
The EU is constantly supporting cultural institutions interested in promoting social inclusion and encouraging the diversity of cultural and artistic expressions in Egypt. Such contribution strengthens the role of culture as a factor of economic growth, opening a window for job opportunities, as well as promoting a cultural hub for the youth and aspiring artists in different artistic and cultural avenues.
Some projects are to be announced soon. The new Facebook page will be an official platform to showcase such events. For more information on cultural cooperation like and follow the page on, https://www.facebook.com/pages/European-Cultural-Activities-in-Egypt/287974364659684
