CAIRO: Helping her ill father to live on, a 12-year-old student chose to work in a flat tire repair workshop, breaking social taboos in her rural village.

Dina Ashraf, a sixth grader who lives in el-Qanater el-Khayriya city in Qalyubia Governorate (Delta,) decided to work with her father after her older brother died in a car accident, repairing car flat tires.

“I felt that my father is getting tired in his job and needs a hand to live on. So I decided to help him and started learning how to deal with the clients; then I learned how to repair car tires until my father trusted my work,” Dina told Youm7 in an interview Saturday.

“I will pass to the preparatory school [next year]; I want to complete my studies to enroll in a university,” Dina said, adding that her younger brother is sick and that she wants to cover the cost of his treatment.

“I need nothing except for treating my brother, unless anyone can bear the cost of his treatment, and a lap top to learn how to use it.”

“How could a girl do this job?” Dina quoted locals in the village, noting that the people’s reaction did never stop her work.
