Ex-Minister of Agriculture re-sentenced to 15 days over bribery

CAIRO:  Former Minister of Agriculture Salah Helal was re-sentenced to 15 days detention pending further investigations over accusations of bribery Wednesday, Youm7 reported.

The minister and three others, face accusations of requesting and taking bribes for facilitating the sale of 2,500 acres in Wadi al-Natroun city in Delta’s Beheira Governorate, according to a statement from the National Security Prosecution.

On Sept. 10, it was announced that he was in custody for an initial 15-day period for further investigation during which media gag was imposed. The accused were arrested Sept. 8 a few hours after Helal resigned from his post.

The new Cabinet reshuffle was carried out following reports claiming that seven ministers were involved into the bribery case; the matter has been denied by the new government.
