23 Egyptians deported from Saudi for violating residency law

CAIRO: A total of 23 Egyptians were deported from Saudi Arabia Tuesday for violating residency and work laws, Youm7 reported.

The Egyptian nationals arrived on a Saudi plane after the authorities had detained them. They admitted at Cairo International Airport to residing in Saudi Arabia illegally, according to Youm7.

Some Egyptian workers stay in the Kingdom despite expired visas in hopes of finding a job. Cairo Airport has received several waves of Egyptian deportees in the past months.

A total of 26 Egyptians arrived Aug. 30, and 32 others on Aug. 25.

According to a report issued by the Saudi Labor Department in 2014, the number of Egyptians working in the Kingdom was estimated at 968,000 at the end of 2013, representing about 40 percent of the total Arab expatriate workforce in Saudi Arabia.

In 2013, the Saudi authorities deported about 200,000 foreign workers in four months due to illegal residency.
